HK Reunion Highlights
Once again, the 2003 IGCE HK Reunion Dinner and Social Hour was nothing less than "spectacular."
First of all we would like to thank the 19 dealers and the two independent collectors clubs that helped sponsor the HK Reunion Dinner and Social Hour. Their generous monetary donation toward the expense of the social hour was GREATLY appreciated.
The dinner started around 8:30 p.m. on June 28, 2003, in the Ballroom of the DoubleTree Hotel in Rosemont, Illinois. As everyone started wandering toward their seats, they were checking out the wonderful event piece Quick Fix, that was suggested by Linda Kowalczyk and created by Peter Calvesbert. The dinner was superb and many of us made new friends due to the seating arrangements. The tables were very nicely decorated with flowers inside different Jardinia's and other HK pieces that were won at the end of the dinner by one person from each table. We have some talented decorators!
After dinner, the real fun started. We would like to recognize all of the children that helped with bringing the baskets to the stage and the drawing of names for the raffles. We couldn't have done it without their smiling faces and energy.
Speaking of raffles and drawings, we had 16 clubs participate (listed below) in the multi-club raffle to which there were approximately 67 Harmony pieces and many other goodies to finish off the baskets. One oddity was the "Going Nuts for Hudson Valley" basket. It contained an artist squirrel "Lord David" which was won by none other than the artist. The multi-club raffle by HOP brought in $2,606. Close Shave (with the worm) raised $1,115 and Let's Do Lunch raised $760. Both pieces were donated by HOP. The Indie Clubs thank you.
After all of the raffles and drawings, and many had gone to bed, it was time for the BIG spenders and curious cats! That's right the HK Reunion Live Auction. All proceeds from this auction went to NAMI, the charity for HOP. There were 12 items listed and the bidding was very interesting. Leanna Barron demonstrated a great skill as auctioneer during this fast paced auction. I think she could have a second calling (te he he). There were proofs, prototypes, an un-produced music box and even a painting donated by Noel Wiggins. The lowest bid was $45 and the highest was $1,050 (Quick Fix Prototype).
Total proceeds for NAMI was $5,570. WOW...How exciting!!!
