Over the Rainbow Prototype |
Over the Rainbow was carved by Master Carver Peter Calvesbert and released in a fixed edition of only 600 pieces. This prototype is a solid piece, not a box, and was produced in England. The production piece will be arriving in stores during March 2008.
Over the Rainbow HK Secrets:
For Peter’s 46th birthday he was given the gift of fly-fishing lessons at a recently opened trout lake, and was immediately hooked (sorry about that). He’s not sure if it is the fishing or the hours of solitude that he prefers, but happily it’s the inspiration for this rainbow trout model. The owners of Broad Oak Trout Lakes are Chris Lee and Charlotte Morgan, and their initials can be found near the base. Types of trout are inscribed on the lid and interior – Brook, Golden, Tiger, Rainbow, Apache and Brown. The oak leaf and acorn represent the names of the two lakes - Oak Lake and Acorn Lake. These lakes are a haven for wildlife, and even a very rare Squacco heron from Africa has recently been sighted. Numerous dragonflies can be found there and three are carved on this box figurine. Peter’s initials can be found above a small fish hiding in the reeds. The initials PTN stand for pheasant tail nymph, the name of a popular artificial fly pattern. Open the lid to see an example of a PTN. |
Over the Rainbow Production Box |
Peter has recently taken up the sport of fly-fishing, and this piece is a tribute to his enjoyment of that sport. This Over the Rainbow has three rainbow trout apparently leaping out of the water after the dragonflies that are perched on the reeds. Peter has carved an oak leaf and acorn on the base*, representing the names of two trout lakes; Oak Lake and Acorn Lake. Just above are the initials CL and CM, for Chris Lee and Charlotte Morgan, the owners of the lakes. Peter's initials are carved just above a small fish that is hiding in the reeds**. His signature mouse must have been exploring the reeds, and is now in danger of drowning!

It's difficult to tell, but there's a small
mold defect or chip to the left of this dragonfly;
an enlargement from the angle above. |

This piece is significantly different from the one that is being issued.
- This is a solid piece, not a box.
- It has a reed rising up out of the center. This was eliminated from the piece as it was issued.
- This prototype has five dragonflies, including two on the central reed. The piece that is being issued only has three dragonflies.
- The base is irregular and has straight sides, rather than being rounded.
- The base is marked RAINBOW TROUT PROTOTYPE.
