NEWSFLASH - OCTOBER 22, 2000

Retired Kitty Seeks New Home for the Holidays!

"Back Scratch"

Due to the generosity of Harmony Kingdom, the HK House of Peers was seeking a home for a very special box - Back Scratch! This is one of the rarest and most sought after boxes. It was one of the first two retirements in 1995, and has sold on the secondary market for over $4,000. Here was your chance to win this rare cat, and benefit NAMI (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill) at the same time.

Each entry was $10 [US dollars] or £7 [pounds sterling], and you may have entered as many times as you wish. This raffle was open to EVERYONE. Deadline for entries was December 15, 2000. Good luck to all!

And...

Another Back Scratch has found a new home - with Susann Kubiak of California! Susann was the lucky winner of this very rare piece in the HK House of Peers Fall Raffle. Thanks to many generous HK collectors around the world, the raffle raised $2,222.50 for the benefit of NAMI (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill). Congratulations Susann, and thanks to all who participated.

In a note received from Susann regarding Back Scratch, she commented:

"It arrived this week and it is simply beautiful. Thank you so much. Every time I see one of the early boxes, it amazes me how simple they are. I look forward to April in Anaheim so that I can have Martin sign it and some of the other old ones I have. It is so beautiful.

"Thank you again [HOP]. You made my dream come true."

Susann

National Alliance for the Mentally Ill

NAMI is the nation's leading grassroots organization solely dedicated to improving the lives of persons with severe mental illnesses (major depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and anxiety disorders). Their efforts focus on support to persons with serious mental illnesses and to their families. They advocate non-discriminatory and equitable federal and state policies; increased research funding into the causes, symptoms, and treatments for mental illness; and education to eliminate the pervasive stigma toward severe mental illness. Through advocacy and education, NAMI translates biomedical research advances into effective treatment and services for individuals with serious mental illness.
